KOKRAJHAR, APRIL 19: A total of 16 candidates from various political parties and individuals have filed their nominations to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency till the last day of the nomination filling on Sunday.
The prominent candidates who have filed their nominations are included NDA alliance (BJP,AGP, UPPL) candidate, Joyanta Basumatary, sitting MP Naba Kumar Sarania, BPF candidate Kampa Borgoyary, Congress’s Gorjon Mushahary.
On Friday, despite Gauhati Court order declaring sitting MP Naba Kumar Sarania ineligible to contest elections from ST constituency in Kokrajhar HPC, Naba Kumar Sarania today submitted his nomination before the Returning Officer at the DC office in Kokrajhar.
He reached the DC office along with his party supporters and well wishers and filed his nomination papers.
Sarania said he will approach the Supreme Court challenging the High Court’s order.
Notably, the Gauhati High Court dismissed a petition by sitting Kokrajhar MP Naba Kumar Sarania challenging an order of the state-level caste scrutiny committee (SLSC) that cancelled the Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificate issued to him in 2011.
According to the Gauhati High Court, Sarania does not belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.
Meanwhile, Kampa Borgoyary, the candidate of BPF party filed his nomination papers before the returning officer of Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency amidst presence of BPF president Hagrama Mohilary, ex-minister Pramila Rani Brahma, MLA Rabiram Narzary.
A rally was carried out in favour of Kampa Borgoyary which was started from Kampa Borgoyary residence to Kokrajhar DC office via JD Road before filling the nomination.
Borgoyary expresses his hopeful of winning from the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency.
BPF president Hagrama Mohilary said that his candidature is getting support from the citizens.
On a question about Naba Kumar Sarania, Mohilary said that if Sarania file nomination, the nomination of Sarania will be cancelled as High Court dismissed his ST certificate.
