KOKRAJHAR, DEC 14: A total of 150 personalities were conferred the prestigious BTR Award (Bodoland Territorial Region) those excelled in their respective fields including sports in Bodoland Territorial Region.

The chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Pramod Boro along with his team of Executive Members(EM) and MCLAs of the BTR government conferred the prestigious BTR Award of excellence upon 150 recipients who excelled in their respective fields being held at a programme held at Bodofa Cultural Complex, Chandamari in Kokrajhar on Thursday amidst presence of huge gathering.

The award presenting ceremony was part of the week-long celebrations commemorating the three glorious years of the UPPL- BJP-GSP led alliance government at the BTR. The awards comprised traditional Aronai, citation and a cash prize of Rs. 1 Lakh each to the sportspersons who excelled and brought laurels to the Bodoland Region in international and national events.

Top three performers in all the departments of the council were also felicitated with a citation and an Aronai.

Addressing the ceremony, CEM Boro said, “As we celebrate BTR’s momentous journey of peace, progress and good governance, we also appreciate and celebrate the success of our sportspersons in both national and international arena. We wish them the best in all their future activities.”

Expressing confidence in the transformative peace and progress achieved in just three years under the UPPL-BJP-GSP coalition government, Boro articulated a bold vision for the future decade, pledging that BTR districts will emerge as the most developed districts and will contribute to Karmayogi Chief Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma’s vision of taking Assam among the top five developed states in India. Highlighting the next two years as a crucial period for performance, he called for unified support to propel BTR to new heights. Notably, he underscored the unique distinction of BTC as the only council in the state with its own successful flagship programs, supplementing state and central schemes.

The champion of the recently held 4th Asian Kho-Kho Championship Ranjana Sarania said that she was extremely happy, encouraged and grateful to have been awarded by the BTR government. International Shot-Put player Thunlai Narzary expressed her joy at being a part of the ceremony, “I am thankful to the BTR Govt for giving us this prestigious recognition. It is fulfilling to be come together and be present in the midst of our very own legendary greats as well as upcoming heroes.” She personally said that the award has further motivated her to pursue her dreams further. She further said, “Our youth should not give up after facing initial setbacks but should persist in their efforts. In today’s sporting environment, we have a government at BTR, Assam and India that has given shape to our sporting dreams as a nation.”

Recipient of BTR Award of Excellence in the field of education, Principal of Udalguri College, Dr. Luke Daimari stated, “Bloom where you are planted and embrace the responsibilities entrusted with.” Lauding the efforts of the Government in acknowledging and appreciating excellence, he urged everyone to join the journey of peace, progress and development and contribute meaningfully to the society.

The week-long celebrations at the Village Council Development Committee (VCDC), constituency, district and the council-level, incorporated a series of sensitization and community contact programs to raise awareness and garner collective alignment to the vision- Peaceful, Smart and Green Bodoland. The festivities at the council level commenced with a Colloquium on Good Governance and Participatory Democracy. This session aimed to facilitate conversations towards achieving good governance through social accountability and effective planning within the BTR.

Besides, a Solidarity Walk for Peace, Healing and Reconciliation through the streets of Kokrajhar- the City of Peace was held following the BTR Awards Ceremony. BTR Peace Flags were to be hoisted, the next day on the 15th December, in all public institutions across the BTR.

It is worth-mentioning that the UPPL-BJP-GSP led Government at Kokrajhar was formed on the 15th of December 2020 shortly after the historic signing of the Bodo Peace Accord 2020. Being put to test by the vagaries of the relentless Covid-19 outbreak and lockdown, the Pramod Boro-led government has been working to recuperate from the post-conflict, post-Covid scenario. During the 3 years journey, 37 flagship programs/ missions were launched by the BTR Government focusing on promotion of good governance, livelihood, education, peace, health, women and child development. Significant ones being, Bodofa Super 50 Mission, Bodoland Sericulture Mission, Bodofa Livelihood Mission, Aai Onsai Bithangki, Bodoland Pig Mission, Mission Fin Rwdwmkang to name the few.

The gathering at the ceremony was also attended by the Speaker of BTCLA, Katiram Boro, Executive Members, MCLAs, Principal Secretary and officials of the council. High achievers and their well-wishers attending the event were also treated to an array of rich cultural presentations by renowned singers and artists.
