KOKRAJHAR, DEC 7: The prime accused involved in murder of a retired engineer of agriculture department and brutal attack on his wife, a retired headmistress of DNH High School, Kokrajhar at their Bhidanpally residence in Kokrajhar town on November 29 was shot at in an encounter with police on Thursday wee morning hours.
According to police, the accused who was identified as Sambhu Kahar was shot at while trying to escape from police custody after attacking a police personnel at Amguri area under Kokrajhar police station this early morning.
Dr AK Kalita of Kokrajhar Rupnath Brahma( RNB) Civil Hospital informed that the accused received a bullet injuries in left leg and is being treated at the civil hospital. A policeman was also received injury in the attack.
Shambu Kahar alias Shil was arrested on 1 December 2023 from Behar under Kotwali police station in West Bengal’s Coochbehar district in connection with Kokrajhar PS case no 396/2023, U/S 448/326/307/302/380 IPC.
Tapan Chakraborty (70), a retired engineer of agriculture department, and his wife Madhumita (65), retired headmistress of DNH High School, were attacked with sharp weapons at Bidhanpalli in Kokrajhar town on November 29. Tapan Chakraborty later succumbed to his injuries.
The accused Kahar is now going under treatment at the hospital under police custody.
