KOKRAJHAR, AUG 27: A consultation meeting on Human-Elephant Conflict, was held at the conference hall of district commissioner office of Tamulpur on Sunday to find innovative & sustainable solutions to mitigate human-elephant conflicts in Bodoland Territorial Region.
The meeting was organised by department of Environment & Forest, government of Bodoland Territorial Region, in association with various civil society organisations and wildlife conservation NGOs of Bodoland region.
Pramod Boro, the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region, chaired the meeting, and was attended by representatives from WWF, Aranyak, WTI, Manas Maozigendri Ecotourism Society, Manas Ever Welfare Society, Manas Conservation Society, Manas Daodhara Dwijing Eco-park Society, Goibari Soibhadri Foundation, and Indo Bhutan Border Ecotourism Society.
The meeting discussed thoroughly and sought to find innovative & sustainable solutions to mitigate human-elephant conflicts, create safe zones for elephants & other wildlife, and chart a roadmap towards making BTR an elephant-friendly region in days to come across the region.
CEM Boro informed that the meeting discussed deeply over the issues of human-elephant conflict which happens in Bodoland region. He said that elephants, the gentle giants of the forests, are crucial for maintaining the ecological balance of the region, especially Bodoland Territorial Region. He said that BTR government has far initiated several step and measures to tackle the human-elephant conflict. He has said that the meeting sought to find innovative & sustainable solutions to mitigate human-elephant conflicts along with creating safe zones for elephants & other wildlife.
Members of the civil society organisations have hailed the meeting, and appreciated the initiative initiated by CEM (BTR), Pramod Boro while bringing end of the human-elephant conflict situation in Bodoland region. They have expressed their willingness to extend cooperation and support while initiating the steps in days to come while conservation of environment & forests.
Among others, BTR Executive members Daobaisa Boro, Sanjit Tanti, MLA Jolen Daimary were present in the meeting.
