3 Poachers arrested, elephant tusk and firearms seized

KOKRAJHAR, DEC 23: In a major breakthrough,three poachers were apprehended from 1 No. Donga village, near the India-Bhutan border in Tamulpur district and seized two handmade rifles and elephant tusk on Sunday.

According to source, acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Police and Forest officials first raided the house of Chingarai Hasda (60) in 1 No. Donga village and recovered a handmade rifles. Upon interrogation, Chingarai revealed that an elephant tusk was hidden in the house of Sanu Hembrom (60) in the same village.

The team subsequently raided Sanu Hembrom’s house and successfully recovered the tusk. Further questioning of Chingarai and Sanu led to another raid at the house of Baburam Soren (46) in Manjur vllage, Nagrijuli, where the team seized another handmade rifles.
The three accused were arrested, and the seized items, including two handmade rifles and the elephant tusk, were brought to the Tamulpur Police Station.

” It was a good step while arrest and recovery of elephant tusk and handmade Riffles being used by poachers”,said a senior forest official.
