CEM of BTR Pramod Boro pay tributes
KOKRAJHAR,JUNE 28: The 28th death anniversary of Bir Chilagang Basumatary, founder chairman of Bodo Liberation Tigers (now defunct) was observed on Saturday at his burial place Bir Chilagang Puri, Bongshigaon near Dotma in Kokrajhar district.
Notably, Bir Chilagang Basumatary, founder chairman of BLT, who struggled for the separate state of Bodoland within India constitution and died on 28th June (1997) after prolonged illness.
Basumatary survived by wife,two sons and a daughter.
The death anniversary was organised by Bir Chilagang Basumatary Trust in association with local citizens to recall the contributions and dedication of Late Bir Chilagang Basumatary towards the welfare and development of the Bodo community.
Irrespective of organization, party and local people thronged at the tomb to pay floral tributes at the cemetery of late Basumatary on the occasion.
Pramod Boro,the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR),former chief of BTC, Hagrama Mohilary,Lok Sabha MP, Joyanta Basumatary, MLAs Lawrence Islary,Jiron Basumatary, ABSU vice president,Khwrwmdao Wary and several dignataries were present in the event.
Ramani Basumatary,widow of late Basumatary paid rich floral tribute to the tomb followed by leaders from various organisations cutting across the communities.
CEM Boro said Bir Chilagang Basumatary was a great leader of the Bodo community who dedicated his life towards the welfare and development of the society.
He said that late Basumatary contributed a lot towards Bodo nation building in his life, struggled for the cause of separate Bodoland statehood within Indian constitution.He said Bir Chilagang Basumatary was a leader of deep philosophy and led the society for wellbeing.
He stated that the government of BTR has so far initiated to construct Bir Chilagang Basumatary mini stadium in all 40 constituencies in the council.He further mentioned that martyr Sujit Narzary memorial auditorium constructed across the 40 constituencies in Bodoland region,and many humanity welfare services are initiated.
He has urged the peoples to come forward while recalling the contribution and dedication of the great persons who had contributed alot towards social development of the community.

While we may differ politically, when it comes to the welfare of our people, we stand together.The peace loving people of BTR is always wish integrity and harmony amongst communities as peace is prevailed in Bodoland region since signing of Bodo Peace Accord.The Govt of BTR is committed to work for all round members of the people”,said Pramod Boro, CEM of BTR, reaffirming the spirit of unity within the community despite political diversity.
